Ready for School

Our transition to school programme

In their last year, Super Castle children follow a dedicated programme that builds the skills and confidence they need for primary school. It runs with a 1:5 teacher-to-child ratio, led by specialised early childhood and primary school teachers, with focused programme time between 11am and 2pm each day.

Confidence & self-management

Managing belongings, following routines and speaking up in a group.

Communication

Listening, asking questions, telling stories and making friends.

Early literacy & numeracy

Letters, sounds, name writing, counting, patterns and shapes through play.

School visits

Pre-school visits to local schools every two weeks, so the first day feels familiar, not frightening.

Communicating your child's learning

You'll see the learning happen

  • Ongoing feedback about your child's progress
  • A regularly updated portfolio documenting your child's learning
  • Display walls in the centre showcasing achievements
  • Photos and updates on our Facebook page
“Teachers use purposeful strategies well to extend children's thinking with a balance of guided and child-led learning.”— ERO Akarangi Quality Evaluation, September 2026
